Reading the Names of the First Africans and their Children in British and Dutch North America and British and Dutch Caribbean
Members of the BU community hope to establish a tradition of reading the names that have been retrieved from the historical records of the first African arrivals. The first reading takes place this coming Friday, May 2, 2014 between 11 and 2 on the steps of the African American Studies Program building at 138 Mountfort Street, Brookline, MA 02471. All volunteers are welcome to come and to read the names of these first African Americans who were transported from Atlantic Africa, survived the horrors of the Middle Passage, endured enslavement during the first sixty years in British and Dutch America, and who established the foundations of African Diasporic communities in the United States and the British Caribbean. Please contact Linda Heywood at Heywood@bu.edu with any questions you may have about this event.
