BU mourns the death of SMG junior Andrew Lawrence
Pennsylvania native was 20
A School of Management junior died early Friday morning at his off-campus apartment in Boston.
Andrew Lawrence (SMG’07), 20, died of natural causes, according to Boston Police, who responded to the scene and said there was no evidence of foul play. Lawrence was from Westtown, Pa., and was pursuing a career in finance.
“Andrew was very well liked by his classmates,” says Norm Blanchard, director of SMG’s undergraduate program. “In speaking with one of his professors, I was told that Andrew was a wonderful young man and that he radiated kindness.”
Says Dean of Students Kenneth Elmore: “Our prayers and our hearts go out to his family and to those who knew Andrew. The Boston University community has suffered a great loss.
“Support for students, faculty, and staff is available throughout the campus,” Elmore says. “Counseling services are available through the Behavioral Medicine Clinic at Boston University Student Health Services. A crisis intervention counselor is also available for emergency assistance at 617-353-3569. Chaplains are available in Marsh Chapel for anyone who feels the need to gather for group or personal prayer or to speak with a chaplain or religious advisor. Residence directors and others members of the Residence Life staff are also available at any of our campus residences.
“I know this is a shock for our students and their families,” says Elmore. “I encourage students and parents to be in touch with each other. During this time of tragedy I encourage us all to reach out to each other in sympathy and support.”
