Grodsky Joins United for Medical Research Board
An opportunity to talk about BU research with Capitol Hill policy makers

Jennifer Grodsky, Boston University vice president for federal relations, has been appointed to the board of United for Medical Research (UMR), a coalition of leading research institutions, patient and health advocates, and industry groups that pushes for increased federal funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
“Robust funding from the National Institutes of Health makes it possible for BU faculty to conduct life-changing medical research,” says Grodsky, who will serve a two-year term on the five-member UMR board. “Working with groups like UMR gives us another opportunity to talk about our research with policy makers on Capitol Hill and to help them understand how important it is for NIH funding to keep up with the opportunities for discoveries and breakthroughs that will improve human health. It’s also another way to hear from lawmakers about how they see the future of the NIH.”
In addition to BU, members of the coalition include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association of American Universities (AAU), Harvard University, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Biotechnology Innovation Organization.
The other UMR board members are from the AAU, Thermo Fisher Scientific, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, and FasterCures, a Washington, DC-based center of the Milken Institute that works on improving the medical research system.
