Artist “Big Sam” Weinberger is known for creating impressive large-scale murals that you sometimes need to crane your neck to appreciate, like his Big Optimism mural in West Palm Beach, Fla., which stands 35 feet tall and is 150 feet wide (think [...]of the side of a three-story building), and closer to home, the 5-foot-tall, 100-foot-long mural that pays tribute to frontline workers at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton.
But for our annual holiday video, we asked Big Sam (CFA’21), who stands nearly seven feet, to direct his gaze downward. Our request: design and paint a holiday tableau on a famous denizen of the BU Beach: the BU Rock. As he worked on a recent cold winter day, he was joined by the BU a cappella group the Allegrettos, who performed their arrangement of Andrew Huang’s modern holiday classic, “You Make Winter Warm.” Take a look.
And from all of us at BU Today, happy holidays!

Say hello to Sam Weinberger (CFA’21) AKA “Big Samâ€. At nearly seven-feet tall, Sam likes to make large scale paintings, and especially loves painting his heroes from the Boston area sports teams. In a perfect combination of skill [...]and timing, Sam made his first big break during the Red Sox Victory Parade, when he sold two of his street art paintings of Mookie Betts and David Price.
