Anxiety and Mood Disorders in DSM-5

By buniverse ()

David Barlow, founder and director emeritus of the Center for Anxiety & Related Disorders at Boston University, discusses current efforts moving toward the fifth edition of the American Psychiatric Association’s fifth edition of the Diagnostic [...]and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), to be published in 2013. The most current manual, DSM-IV, was last revised in 2000.

Proposed changes to DSM-5 diagnoses include eliminating Asperger's syndrome as a separate disorder and merging it under autism spectrum disorders, including further and more accurate sub-typing for bipolar disorder, and adding a revamped definition of personality disorder, among others. Proposed new DSM-5 diagnoses include absexual disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, depressive personality disorder, negativistic (passive-aggressive) personality disorder, post-traumatic embitterment disorder, relational disorder, sluggish cognitive tempo, and binge eating.

Hosted by the Center for Anxiety & Related Disorders on October 20, 2010.
