Tim Hamill Visiting Artist Lecture: William Kentridge

By buniverse ()

Best known for animated films based on charcoal drawings, William Kentridge’s works have propelled him into the realm of South Africa’s top artists. His animations, focused on time and change, are often autobiographical, as an [...]individual (Kentridge includes his self-portrait in many of his pieces) and as a South African (many of his works concern social and political issues). Kentridge speaks about time pre- and post-Einstein’s theory of relativity and how it relates to art as part of the Seventh Annual Tim Hamill Visiting Artist Lecture series.

Hosted by College of Fine Arts School of Visual Arts on February 28, 2011

Visiting Artist Talk: Carrie Moyer

By buniverse ()

Carrie Moyer, painter, writer and activist, melds hard graphic shapes with biomorphic forms in expertly handled acrylic, or in the artist's words "the ugly step-child of oil paint." Her work simultaneously recalls Surrealism, 70s counterculture [...]graphics and abstract expressionism, fused with an expressly feminist bent and an interest in alternative cultural histories. Moyer has throughout her artistic career been invested in queer and feminist activism: She cofounded Dyke Action Machine! (DAM!) in 1991, and has worked with and designed agitprop graphics for Queer Nation, the Lesbian Avengers, the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization (ILGO) and the New York City Anti-Violence Project. Moyer's writing has appeared in Art in America, Artforum, Modern Painters, the Brooklyn Rail and other publications, and her essays have also been included in a range of anthologies—from Queers in Space: Communities, Public Spaces and Sites of Resistance to The Studio Reader: On the Space of Artists.Part of the Contemporary Perspectives Lecture Series.
