This semester, BU’s Center for the Study of Asia (BUCSA) began offering an innovative new major in Asian Studies. The new major provides a broad, interdisciplinary, and comparative perspective on how Asian peoples, nations, states, regions, and diasporas have developed. Unlike the East Asian Studies major, which is being phased out, Asian Studies encompasses South and Southeast Asia in addition to East Asia.

Min Ye, assistant professor of international relations, and Sunil Sharma, chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature, designed the major to be easily tailored to each student’s interests. Students can focus on a single country or on particular transnational issues such as cultural flows, security, or economic development.

Those who major in Asian Studies will be well prepared for graduate study and for careers in government, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations (both local and international). For more information, please visit the BUCSA website.
