BU Tanglewood Institute: From the Director’s Desk | December 2021

December 14, 2021
Twitter Facebook

Greetings from Boston University Tanglewood Institute!

We’re delighted to continue rolling out BUTI’s Summer 2022 plans in this issue of Prelude!

Next season is shaping up to be as full of music and community as ever, and we are so excited to be returning to Lenox, together. We’re planning new programs, diverse repertoire, and the return of our acclaimed Workshops and Young Artists Programs. For new and aspiring composers, we’re debuting a new program designed by director Martin Amlin and advisors Missy Mazzoli (BUTI’98, CFA’02) and Valerie Coleman (BUTI’89, CFA’95). The Composition Fundamentals Workshop (CFWS) is an exciting opportunity for singers and instrumentalists to forge a new path.

Also new in the first two weeks of Summer 2022 (June 19-July 2), is the Woodwind Quintet Workshop (WQWS), led by Valerie Coleman. Modeled after the String Quartet Workshop, this program is for individuals and pre-formed groups who are performing at a high level and who want to delve deeply into the Woodwind Quintet repertoire—both new and old.

As our alumni make news in the field, we are proud to share their successes. BUTI alumni are bringing their artistry to concert halls, classrooms, board rooms, and elsewhere around the world, in all walks of life. Alumni, please stay in touch and if you have news to share–musical or otherwise—please do! We’re looking forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your continued support and excitement about BU Tanglewood Institute. We’re so proud of it and of all of our alumni whose lives have been transformed by it. If you are or know of a young artist who is yearning to take the next steps in their artistic development at a place like no other, begin the application today. Applications are due January 21, 2022.

On behalf of all of us at BUTI, I send warmest wishes for a healthy and meaningful holiday season.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Hilary Respass
Executive Director
