BU Sociology Faculty Announce Launch of Cascading Lives Website
The Cascading Lives Project announces the launch of the Cascading Lives website. The Project Team includes Co-Directors Nazli Kibria (Boston University, Sociology) and Karen V. Hansen (Brandeis University, History and Sociology), and Senior Research Associate Max Greenberg (Boston University, Sociology). The website offers biographical stories based on life histories, audio and photographs of a wide range of workers in the hospitality industry. It also includes the Cascading Lives Digital Toolkit — a package of teaching materials about economic inequality and mobility in the U.S.
The Cascading Lives Project is about the lives of diverse groups of people in the U.S. and how they manage their ups and downs and face times of economic crisis. Support for the project comes from the Voices for Economic Opportunity Grand Challenge. Launched in 2019, the Grand Challenge seeks to address the persistent toxic narratives about poverty in the U.S. by elevating diverse voices and broadening the national conversation about poverty and economic mobility.
