UROP Announces Summer Funding Opportunities

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) will soon be accepting applications for Summer 2023! The application deadline is 12:00PM on Thursday, March 2, 2023.

A virtual information session with helpful tips on how to apply for summer UROP funding will be held on Monday, January 30 at 5:00pm.

Summer Application Information

The types of funding for which students may apply include:

  • Faculty Matching Grant (FMG): funding split equally between UROP and the faculty mentor’s research funds.
  • Student Research Award (SRA): funded entirely by UROP.
  • Humanities Scholars Award: stipend for students conducting research in the Humanities
  • Global Challenge Research Award: stipend and/or supplies for one summer and two consecutive academic semesters available to juniors conducting faculty-mentored research that addresses an issue of global importance. This year’s topic is Public Health; applicants will be invited from the general applicant pool.
  • Supplies Award: awards up to $500 for research supplies, transferred directly to faculty mentor’s department.
  • Housing Support: No application necessary. Up to $1000 toward summer housing (limited number of supplements available for students based on financial need as determined by Boston University Office of Financial Aid).

Please visit www.bu.edu/urop to learn more about UROP and the application process. We strongly recommend that faculty and students review the eligibility requirements and funding descriptions before applying and contact us if there are concerns. Ineligible applications will not be considered for funding. Applicants are required to have their faculty mentor submit a letter of recommendation by 11:59PM on Thursday, March 2, which must be submitted here.

Post a Research Opportunity

If you are a faculty member interested in mentoring an undergraduate (as a volunteer, credit, paid) UROP encourages you to post a research opportunity on their website.
