Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 6/15/18

During the weekend of June 16:

  • Utility work on Albany Street, from the School to 650 Albany Street, will continue on Saturday and Sunday in line with City of Boston permits. Please be aware of signage and barriers denoting lane changes during this time.

During the week of June 18:

  • Pile-drilling will continue around the perimeter of the existing GSDM building on its west side (between GSDM and the Boston Medical Center/Newton Pavilion) for the 7-story addition. This operation will also be moving to the north elevation (the Boston Medical Center/Newton Pavilion loading dock entrance) to continue pile-drilling for the 2-story addition.
  • Installation of the earth-retention system (SOE) will continue along the edge of the BMC loading dock through the week.

We continue to carefully monitor the vibration and sound associated with this operation to ensure safety for all and confirmation that the vibration does not exceed thresholds established by the project’s geotechnical engineer. We anticipate that this work will be completed by 6/27/18, pending weather and project scheduling requirements. We appreciate your patience as we pursue the work necessary for renovating and building the new addition to the Dental School.

  • Foundation work to support the new main entrance porch will continue along Albany Street.
  • Utility work in Albany Street will continue, from the existing GSDM building towards 609 Albany Street. This work will be performed during normal business hours, in line with City of Boston permits.
  • Saw-cutting of the existing basement concrete slab will continue, to create trenches for new under-slab utilities.
  • Installation of hangers used to hold the new piping for the first-floor renovation will continue. This work involves drilling into the underside of the first-floor slab. Building occupants may hear grinding sounds or feel slight vibrations under their feet during these short durations of drilling. Installation of new piping and duct work to support the new building mechanical systems will begin.
  • Removal of the existing windows will begin on the first floor along East Newton Street and Albany Street. Prior to the removals, a temporary wall will be built inside the building to help keep the building secure and weathertight.
  • Demolition of the first-floor bathrooms will continue to make room for the new Fire Command Center for the building.

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
