Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 6/8/18
During the weekend of June 9:
- Utility work on Albany Street, from the School to 650 Albany Street, will continue on Saturday and Sunday in line with City of Boston permits. Please be aware of signage and barriers denoting lane changes during this time.
During the week of June 11:
- Pile-drilling will continue around the perimeter of the existing GSDM building on its west side (between GSDM and the Boston Medical Center/Newton Pavilion) for the 7-story addition.
- Mobilization of the crane that will be used to install the earth-retention system (SOE) is scheduled to occur on Monday. Installation of the SOE will begin on Tuesday along the edge of the BMC loading dock and will continue through the week.
- Utility work in Albany Street will continue, from the existing GSDM building towards 609 Albany Street. This work will be performed during normal business hours, in line with City of Boston permits.
- Saw-cutting of the existing basement concrete slab will continue, to create trenches for new under-slab utilities.
- Installation of hangers used to hold the new piping for the first-floor renovation will begin. This work includes drilling into the underside of the first-floor slab. Building occupants may hear grinding sounds or feel slight vibrations under their feet during these short durations of drilling.
- On the first floor, temporary interior walls will be constructed, to protect the building interior during the removal of the existing windows.
PLEASE NOTE: See the newly installed “No Sitting on Jersey Barriers” signs on East Newton Street, and at the existing GSDM entrance. Sitting on the barriers presents a serious safety risk! The road is narrow at the barriers and there is substantial risk that a vehicle’s side mirror could catch on the bag or backpack of someone sitting on the barrier. Please help us avoid accidents and stay off the barriers!
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
