Dr. John Guarente Joins ADEA Leadership Institute Class of 2008

Dr. John Guarente, assistant dean for patient services, will become a student again this year as he joins the eighth class of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Leadership Institute. The yearlong program invites 21 dental school faculty to build skills for leadership in dental higher education.
The four-phase program, which runs from the 2007 AEDA Annual Session and Exhibition in New Orleans March 19 to the 2008 session in Dallas, includes workshops on self-assessment, legislation, administrative and faculty development, and a final project relevant to BUSDM. Class members meet five times during the year, for several days at a time.
“I’m thankful for the people who have supported me in the application process,” says Guarente, whom Dr. Jeffrey Hutter, associate dean for academic affairs, nominated to the Institute. Guarente expects to further develop his leadership skills and make connections with colleagues who will serve as a resource for advice in the future.
Other BUSDM faculty who have attended the ADEA Leadership Institute include Drs. Paul Farsai and Ana Karina Mascarenhas.
