DMD Students Share APEX Research

On August 14, 18 DMD 12 students presented summaries of the research they completed during their eight-week APEX I research rotations.
"It’s wonderful to see 18 students presenting—our largest group ever," said Professor and Director of the Predoctoral Research Program Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska. "The depth and breadth of the research here today is amazing."
The presenting students completed research on a wide variety of topics while working with a diverse group of mentors from departments throughout the School. A complete list of students and topics can be found here.
Dr. Kukuruzinska added, "Research rotations play very important roles in dental education because they introduce students to experimentation and data analyses, further enhancing their critical thinking skills. Moreover, research training demonstrates first-hand how new knowledge is generated and emphasizes the need for continual learning.”
After each student presented for 10 minutes they fielded questions from the audience comprised of other students, staff, and faculty—including Dean Jeffrey Hutter.
"I was very pleased to see all the students have accomplished during their eight-week rotations," said Dean Hutter. "Their passion for research at this early stage in their dental careers is encouraging and I hope that many of them will continue to pursue these topics as their education progresses."
