International Dentists Seek Lifelong Learning at GSDM

During the week of September 20, Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) welcomed two groups of dentists from abroad for continuing education courses presented in two languages—Korean and Italian.

“I am so pleased that, through the Dental School’s Continuing Education courses, we can share our commitment to global education and lifelong learning,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, who addressed participants at the beginning of the course sessions.

Paradigm Change in Implant Dentistry, the course with Korean translation, reviewed the evolution of implant dentistry and the most recent information in treatment planning, surgery, and restoration of dental implants. Sixty Korean participants honed their skills with guidance from Drs. Zhimon Jacobson, Hussam Batal, and David Cottrell.

Ten dentists from Italy met later that week for a three-day course covering many special topics: fixed prosthodontics, new advancements in both periodontics and implantology, troubleshooting posterior composites, distraction osseogenesis in implant dentistry, and esthetic dentistry. Drs. Dan Nathanson, Neal Fleisher, Zhimon Jacobson, Carl Mcmanama, David Cottrell, and Andre Hashem taught.

On the third day, Italian alum Paolo Vigolo PROS 90, MSD 91 gave a presentation.

The School looks forward to hosting similar events with alumni and international participation in the future.
