BUGSDM Spreads Oral Health Awareness at Boston Diabetes EXPO

Under the leadership of Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) Division of Community Health Programs, students and faculty of BUGSDM increased oral health awareness at the American Diabetes Association’s Boston Diabetes EXPO on Saturday, March 15. Volunteers provided free dental screenings and handed out educational material to EXPO attendees.
This is the fifth year that BUGSDM has participated and joined Screening World, the section of the exhibition floor that provides free health screenings of the feet, cholesterol, blood pressure, and teeth. This year they were able to provide free screenings to 125 people in just two hours, an impressive 95 more screenings than last year.
"We provided the majority of the screenings to adults, many of whom has significant oral health needs," said volunteer Stefanie Sunnes DMD 10. "Many of these adults put other health issues in front of their oral health needs, and did not realize the impact poor oral health can have on them."
