Dr. Anthony Gianelly Receives Prestigious Award from AAO

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) Professor and Chair ad interim of Orthodontics Dr. Anthony Gianelly was presented with the 2009 Louise Ada Jarabak Memorial International Teachers and Research Award at the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) 2009 Annual Session, held in Boston May 1-5.
The Jarabak Award is given annually to an orthodontist who is a full- or part-time teacher and/or department chair of an orthodontics graduate program, is associated with orthodontics research in some capacity, has made personal sacrifices in his or her efforts to promote the orthodontic specialty, has published his or her work, and has made essay presentations at the constituent or national AAO level.
"I’m a bit overwhelmed to be the recipient of the Jarabak Award, which to an academic, represents maximum recognition of a job well done," said Dr. Gianelly during his acceptance speech. "I accept this award with gratitude and humility. I also feel very humble and fortunate because I am aware that there are many deserving individuals." Dr. Gianelly continued, "This year I am the lucky one."
Dr. Gianelly has been a member of the AAO for nearly five decades. At this year’s meeting he also presented the J. A. Salzmann Lecture. In 2004, he received the Albert H. Ketcham Memorial Award from the AAO for his notable contribution to the science and art of orthodontics
