GSDM Superhero Helps Boston-area Children Tackle Dentistry

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) held the fifth annual Program White Coat from July 20 through 24. Program White Coat is a week-long summer program designed to introduce Boston-area children, ages 9 to 11, to dentistry and other related health professions.
The program is one of GSDM’s pipeline programs, which aim to increase the chances of underrepresented minorities and economically disadvantaged students being accepted into and succeeding in dental school.
The week was packed with an interactive and fun schedule that focused on oral health. GSDM faculty, staff, and students led children through a role playing activity in the School’s Simulation Learning Center, helped them conduct experiments in Boston University’s CityLab, demonstrated what goes on in a dental operatory, and took them on a field trip to the Museum of Science.
Program White Coat superhero Captain Cavity Fighter, the disguised fourth-year dental student Courtney Brady, was on hand to guide children through the week and finally revealed her true identity on Friday.
Photos from the week are available on GSDM’s flickr account and also on the GSDM Facebook page. You must have full web access to view the flickr account.
