Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska Evaluates Medical Research Cancer Center

Professor and Director of the Predoctoral Research Program Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska was a member of a National Cancer Institute’s review group that attended a site visit at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research Cancer Center from October 21 to 23.

Burnham Institute for Medical Research Cancer Center is one of 65 Cancer Centers receiving partial support for research resources from the National Cancer Institute through their Cancer Center Support Grants. These grants typically total $15M and when an institution seeks to renew their grant award they must go through a review process which includes a site visit.

As of 2009, the Burnham Institute for Medical Research was ranked number one in the world in the areas of biology and biochemistry.

“It was a great experience to evaluate exceptional and outstanding science supported by cutting edge research resources," said Dr. Kukuruzinska.
