Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department Takes to the Harbor to Welcome New Residents and Interns

On Sunday, August 10, 2014, the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery welcomed its incoming residents and interns to Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) with a brunch cruise in the Boston Harbor. Approximately 70 residents, interns, faculty, staff, and alumni were in attendance.
Guests began boarding at noon for a three-hour brunch cruise on the Odyssey. They were entertained by live music and views of Boston from the open top deck. The focus of the day was the new residents and interns.
The event welcomed three new residents and two new preliminary interns into the GSDM community. The three incoming residents this year are Michael Shapiro from Columbia University, Evan Wardius from Temple University, and Kamyar Raiss Giglou from the University of Pennsylvania. The two new preliminary interns are Michael Shemkus from Tufts University and Ashkan Mobini from New York University.
Chair of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Dr. Pushkar Mehra said, “The Brunch Cruise was held on a beautiful, sunny day and it was a very nice opportunity for the new residents and interns to get to know the faculty, other residents, alumni, and staff. An informal off-campus gathering for department personnel goes a long way in promoting teamwork and building morale.”
