The National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) recently announced its 2016 research grant recipients, and Dr. Eszter Hegyi, a Post-Doctoral Associate in the Center for Exocrine Disorders of the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, received a one-year award for $50,000 to study the role of genomic rearrangements affecting chymotrypsin genes in chronic pancreatitis.

Dr. Miklos Sahin-Toth, Professor in the Department of Molecular & Cell Biology and Director of the Center for Exocrine Disorders, describes the grant award as an important achievement that will allow Dr. Hegyi to complete and publish her preliminary data and apply for long-term NIH funding to study the role of chymotrypsins in exocrine disorders. The NPF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding cutting edge research, advocating for new and better therapies, and providing support and education for those impacted by pancreatic disease.
