Diego Fernandez Montes
We’re sad to hear about the loss of CAS freshman Diego Fernandez Montes. He was very active in our community, and looked to be a student leader we would get to know well throughout his career.
BU Today has written an outstanding story on Diego’s life. Below is the text of an email from President Brown to the University community this morning regarding Diego. We will continue to update this space with information about remembrances and memorials as they become available.

Letter from President Brown – March 18, 2014
Dear Friends,
It is with sadness that I write to inform you of a loss in our community. While home in Mexico City during the break, Diego Fernandez Montes, a freshman in the College of Arts & Sciences, lost his life tragically.
The thoughts and prayers of all of us go out to the family and friends who are experiencing this terrible loss. A funeral mass for Diego was celebrated in Mexico City this past Sunday.
Dean of Students Kenn Elmore has been in contact with the family. Based on the wishes of Diego’s family and his friends here at Boston University, we anticipate that there will be a memorial service of some kind here in coming days. Please look to BU Today for information about such an event and for more detailed coverage of this tragedy.
Dean Elmore and his staff are reaching out to students who knew Diego—some of whom joined his family at the mass in Mexico City. As always when our community experiences a loss, we offer to students and staff affected by tragedy the resources of our spiritual leaders based in Marsh Chapeland our counseling services. These are: Student Health Services and Behavioral Medicine, Sexual Assault Response & Prevention Center (SARP), and the Faculty & Staff Assistance Office.
Sincerely,
Robert A. Brown
President
