Keep safety in mind this spring.
The following message was sent out to the student community by Dean Elmore on March 15, 2017.
Looks like Winter did not break us! (Don’t worry, we didn’t jinx the City.)
It may be premature, but we have faith that the season of joyful gatherings has begun. It’s the time full of moments when we get together, often to celebrate, but also to catch up, meet new people, enjoy a vibe, and to delight in newfound warmth. In the coming days, weeks, and months Boston will be abuzz with large, spirited and spontaneous gatherings around St. Patrick’s Day, Opening Day (exciting even if you don’t root for the home team), Marathon Monday, and numerous local Commencements.
Our message is simple: keep yourself safe while you enjoy the spirit of these moments. As you plan your days and evenings, keep in mind that large public celebrations are commonplace. Jump around, chant, dance, and sing with others, and remain aware of your surroundings. We care about you and urge you to make plans to get home safely; stay away from people acting in a way that may harm you; be alert for scammers, thieves, and people who may try to victimize you; don’t overindulge in drinking alcoholic beverages (if you choose to drink); make sure your friends get home and keep an eye out for each other; and, comply with any police advisories and requests. And, if you are a host, make your guests’ safety a part of your hospitality.
All the best during the upcoming Spring sprees. Delight in all the fun and joy you can stand, but above all else, stay safe,
Kenneth Elmore
