Coffee and Conversation: Profilin’ in DC

What a scene! Not the commandment announcement from the latest gadget by the cool CEO.  The people who make the decisions for the rest of us — the power, the honchos, the folks in charge, the Man — get together at least once a year to put on a show for the nation.  Instead of parading weapons and soldiers down Pennsylvania Avenue, we stage a seemingly mellow opportunity for pictures and video.  Look at the snapshot.  What’s the message?  One guy makes an introduction and another one gets to read the script, for more than an hour, but the message depends on the other folk on the set.  VMAs, the Oscars, and any red carpet scene on E! got nothing on the stylin’ and profilin’ of a State of the Union address.

During today’s Coffee and Conversation, let’s talk about what the main script for this year’s annual State of the Union address was all about, but let’s also talk about the scene.  Whose the director?  What is the grand master of the set trying to tell us?  Is this intentional?  See you this afternoon at the Howard Thurman Center, 3-5 p.m.  I’ll bring the cookies and coffee, you bring your game (and a cup or mug for your coffee).

Peace.
