Hurricane Irene and FYSOP: Status from the Dean of Students
Friday, August 26, 2011, 5pm — Boston University is currently tracking the course of Hurricane Irene, and preparing in the event it affects the Greater Boston area.
FYSOP is currently holding to its current schedule of a Monday, August 29, 2011, 4pm move-in. However, we implore you not to travel through unsafe conditions. We will delay the beginning of FYSOP as needed. Please do not attempt to “beat” the storm to move-in early. We will make adjustments Monday and Tuesday to the FYSOP schedule if a large number of our participants are unable to travel.
We urge you to follow the instructions of the authorities in your area and keep your personal safety your highest priority. Keep checking this page throughout the weekend for further updates.
Wednesday, August 24, 2011 12 pm – At this time, forecasts have the storm bringing heavy rain and wind into the area from Saturday, August 27 until Monday, August 29. However, weather authorities will not know for sure the storm’s possible impact on the area until later on this week.
Given the current forecasts, the Dean of Students encourages students arriving for the First Year Student Outreach Project (FYSOP) to be mindful of the weather and not try to “beat” the storm to get here. We will delay the beginning of FYSOP as needed. We understand flights may be delayed, and we will coordinate our airport pickups appropriately. Please put your personal safety first, and do not travel through unsafe conditions.
We will make further decisions as to the start time of FYSOP, as well as the status of other University programs, as the weekend approaches. Please keep checking www-test.bu.edu/dos for more updates.
