Out of the Blue – Order from Chaos
Boston University welcomed Simon Armitage and Mark Feeney on September 21st, 2009, for a lecture entitled Out of the Blue – Order from Chaos.
Born in 1963 in West Yorkshire, England, Simon Armitage published his first book Zoom! in 1989. Since then, Armitage has received numerous prestigious awards in poetry in the United Kingdom – the Sunday Times Young Author of the Year, Gregory Award, and a Forward Prize, to name a few. He has lectured at the University of Leeds and at Manchester Metropolitan University.
This event was moderated by Mark Feeney, who began his career at the Boston Globe in 1979 as a researcher. Since then, he has worked as assistant book editor, book editor, editor of the Globe’s weekly news analysis and commentary, and staff writer for the Boston Globe magazine. Feeney has been a lecturer in American Studies at Brandeis University since 2004. And in 2008, Feeney was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for criticism for his work on visual culture.
