You’re invited to an incredible educational event and fundraiser co-hosted by the AcademyHealth BU Student Chapter and the Health Policy & Management department. This event will be a fundraiser and educational panel on the barriers of access to care. Come listen to speakers Dr. Ellen O’Neill, Associate Director of the Department of Audiology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Dr. Katherine Semrau, Assistant Professor of International Health at Boston University School of Public Health, in discussing issues such as the oppressive cost of care, access to medical screenings, and poor health education affecting children both domestically and abroad.

The AcademyHealth BU Student Chapter prides itself on providing educational events and opportunities for BU students and its members, but we have an even larger purpose for this event. Barriers to accessing early childhood health screening in Nigeria has led to delayed treatment of a 5-year-old name Awad’s hearing loss. One of our AcademyHealth officers was introduced to Awad and his family while doing work and Nigeria and first hand saw the impact of how this delayed treatment led to his impaired speech development.

We are asking for a minimum $5 donation from those attending to help provide a sufficient hearing aid for Awad. Our goal is to raise $3,500 and those willing to donate can do so at the event or online by clicking here! Please feel free to share this page as well with anyone you may know who could be interested in making a donation.

The event will be April 8th from 5-6 pm in Wilkins Board Room. Light refreshments will be served. Please join us at this event to learn more on the topic of barriers to accessing care and help give 5-year-old Awad a hearing aid!
