Summer 2015 Guatemala-based Internship with Mil Milagros/A Thousand Miracles; Must be bilingual

in Practicums/Internships
March 5th, 2015

Mil Milagros/A Thousand Miracles is a Boston-based non-profit organization that works in partnership with mothers, grandmothers and teachers in Guatemala to prevent child malnutrition and hunger and to ensure that children graduate from sixth grade healthy, literate and prepared to continue their education. The organization launched its pilot school-based nutrition and hygiene programs six years ago and has since been refining its model while building its infrastructure and expanding its reach. The program currently works with 545 mothers and grandmothers and 55 teachers to serve 1,100 children.

MM is seeking an MPH or MS student to work with us in Guatemala to: describe the organization’s work and strategies, conduct interviews to access the program’s impacts and effects, evaluate the data collection methods used (MM has installed a database in each school to track children’s heights, weights, attendance, grade promotion, and hygiene data), and develop recommendations to improve program implementation. The information gathered also will serve to inform the development of a longer term evaluation.

Successful candidates will have experience working with NGOs in developing countries, will be bilingual (Spanish/English), possess excellent communication skills, and have expertise working in community health, nutrition and/or education settings.

Time frame: June through August 2015
Non-paid; student must secure own funding.
