Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with Dexis
Dexis is seeking an experienced Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to provide expertise in qualitative research methods to the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Division. The M&E Specialist will work on the global performance evaluation of the Feed the Future Initiative as well as other potential performance and impact evaluations with USAID and Department of State. The work location for this position will be in Washington, DC. This is a full time, position. The start date for this position is immediate.
Responsibilities
- Lead design of qualitative methods in evaluation protocols.
- Develop key informant and focus group guides
- Lead coding and analysis of qualitative data
- Contribute to technical proposal sections
- Participate on evaluation teams as qualitative researcher
Qualifications
- MA in social sciences with at least 5 years of practical research experience.
- Experience with qualitative research methods required.
- Experience with ATLAS.ti, NVivo, Dedoose or other qualitative data analysis software required.
- Experience managing projects and tracking budgets
- Experience working in developing countries preferred
- Fluency in Spanish or French preferred

A Mobile Monday Event: Mobile Phones in Ebola Response – What Did We Learn?
In the recent West Africa Ebola outbreak, cell phones were heavily used for mass communication, disease tracking, and response coordination. As part of Mobile Monday Boston, tech experts from Boston-based global health organizations Dimagi and Partners in Health will share their experiences developing and deploying mobile tech for Ebola response. Panelists will touch upon several topics, including:
- The health / technology facts and figures behind the Ebola outbreak
- Sharing stories of how organizations used cell phones on the frontline - The unique challenges of rapidly designing mobile apps for remote areas
- Discussing how we can better prepare for possible disease outbreaks with mobile technology.

Graduation Applications Due February 15

The UMass Boston Film Series pays particular attention to emerging and iconic directors of acclaimed documentaries that have obtained recognition for their unique, relevant, and exceptional cinematic efforts. The series hosts filmmakers for in-person Q&As moderated by curator and lecturer Chico Colvard. The Film Series also partners with UMass Boston faculty, film industry insiders, and local organizations to participate in post-screening panel discussions about the issues central to the featured films. Ultimately, the UMass Boston Film Series aims to create a synergy of place around the moving image.

By designing an easy and convenient experience using the human voice and multimedia technology, we
seek to empower bystanders to provide quality medical emergency care before the arrival of trained
rescuers. By instilling a culture of action, we hope to increase the survival rates of medical emergencies in non-hospital settings.
We are looking to bring on a Part-time Intern (10-20hrs/wk) to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of Designers, Software Developers, Clinicians and End Users to develop a multi-media solution that improves a bystander’s performance of emergency care.
As a social impact venture, all your creativity and expertise would save someone’s life, improve their
health outcomes or relieve pain and suffering.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, curate and drive review of emergency care instructions for the lay public
- Create easy to understand lightweight step by step instructions that are easy to render in high
fidelity on a mobile phone
- Collaborate with and engage with a multi-disciplinary team of designers, developers,
clinicians, emergency medicine SMEs and end users
- Lead a crowd-sourcing campaign to create an AED registry
- Conduct user experience testing and software regression testing
- Assist with strategy and planning of the software pilot
Qualifications
- Candidate for a Master in Public Health (MPH)
- Experience in storyboarding, and product design
- Passionate about social impact and global mhealth solutions
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies is an added bonus
- A team-oriented self-starter that works well alone and with a team and is dedicated to
quality,highly creative and has a strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Institute for Public Health 2016 Summer Programs
These eight-week programs are open to national and international students currently enrolled at the time of application and participation in the program in the following degree programs at a U.S.-based university:

About Uganda Village Project
The Uganda Village Project (UVP) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization specializing in international public health, working with the people of Iganga to promote public health and sustainable development in the rural communities of Iganga, in southeast Uganda.
Summer 2016 Internship Opportunity
We are currently accepting applications for our Summer 2016 internship program. Interns spend 8-9 weeks living and working in a village in rural Iganga District, Uganda, gaining experience in public health, community education, and international development. Interns work in diverse teams composed of Ugandan and non-Ugandan team members. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities in several focus areas, including water, sanitation, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, malaria, and reproductive health.

Intern Qualifications
We are looking for individuals who are passionate and have experience in public health, medicine, or international development. We give extra consideration to individuals who have prior experience working in developing and low-resource settings. Ideal applicants are those who have a strong interest in development and/or global health and are looking for a cross-cultural and entrepreneurial opportunity to work in a rural setting. All interns must be at least 18 years old. Historically, interns have come from all around the world as medical students, graduate students, undergraduate students, and professionals.
Internship Program Dates
- Team Leaders:June 10, 2016 – August 15, 2016 (8.5 weeks)
- All Interns:June 13, 2016 – August 15, 2016 (8 weeks)
Internship Fundraising Requirement
Once accepted, all interns are required to fundraise $2,250 USD for UVP, in addition to a deposit of a refundable $500 USD, which is refundable upon successful completion of the program. This sum includes a donation towards UVP's programs in Uganda, pick-up and drop-off at Entebbe Airport, orientation costs, room and board, in-country transportation, food, and Uganda-based staffing costs. All interns are required to individually purchase airfare to and from Entebbe Airport in Uganda.
