Global Health Internship Program: AMOS Hope and Health
Amos Internship Program Description
In our Global Health Practicum + Internship program, students remain at AMOS for five additional weeks (or 200 additional hours) after the practicum to work on projects that have been identified as priority areas by the communities we work with and our primary health care team. Internship teams in the past have contributed to project areas that include: Women's Empowerment, Youth Empowerment, Urban Health, and Nutrition.
*All interns must be a part of the Global Health Practicum before their internship.

Global Health Practicum: AMOS Hope and Health
AMOS Health Practicum Description
Objective: Each summer, AMOS provides a three-week, 120-hour Global Health Practicum course that aims to empower a socially-conscious generation of public health workers. Fostering critical analysis of international health development and social theories of power and privilege, the practicum studies current models and methodologies for improving health in low-resource settings.
Practicum Activities: Students examine current models and methodologies for improving health in low-resource settings over three weeks (or 120 hours). This experience teaches students to build on community strengths and facilitate strategic community empowerment to improve health outcomes. The course will introduce participants to community-based primary healthcare practices and provide hands-on training in rural communities.The Global Health Practicum has no language requirement.

Call for Internship Applications
Internship Opportunities with the Global Fund’s Access to Funding Department
There are two internship opportunities in the Access to Funding Department at the Global Fund Secretariat, Geneva, Switzerland, starting January 2017.
Data management intern: Maintain quality inputs to department tracking database, liaising with multiple teams in the department to source information. Analyze data and produce/update charts and standard reports and respond to ad hoc data requests. Coordinate production of surveys, collecting responses, aggregating data and generating recommendations. Prepare dashboards for executive body to support decision-making. Support maintenance of database to capture information on allocation and grant amounts and key timing milestones in the funding cycle.
Governance support intern: Provide support to the production of Secretariat documentation to assist senior management and an independent review body as they assess funding applications and grants. Take minutes, prepare PowerPoint presentations, synthesize outcomes. Identify lessons learned, issues for follow up, and analyze policy and operational implications of key decisions. Contribute to regular reporting to the Board by tracking and reporting on key metrics for each applicant or grant. Ensure extranets for external partners are up to date. Provide troubleshooting assistance as required.
How the intern can benefit from the internship:
- Obtain experience gathering information from various sources and quickly creating professional-quality, publication-ready products.
- Gain knowledge and understanding of the funding process of the Global Fund in a practical, dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Be given opportunities to learn new skills, and further develop and apply skills and knowledge acquired through existing qualifications and studies.
- Receive CHF 2,000 per month stipend for full-time internship.
Essential qualifications:
- Ability to process information from a variety of sources quickly and synthesize clear and concise communications.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Self-motivated, detail oriented and delivers on time.
- Ability to work in an environment with people from a variety of multicultural backgrounds.
- Available full time or near full time for a six-month period, with a start date of 09 January 2016.
Desirable additional qualifications:
- Good working knowledge of French or Spanish or Russian.
- High level of expertise in PowerPoint

If so, Initiatives Inc. is looking for someone like you to help us further develop and promote CHW Central, an online community of practice that hosts over 500 resources on research, training materials, practical tools, and up to date guidance to increase the use of best practices to support community health workers and CHW programs.
The world is facing a shortage of an estimated 7.2 million health workers (WHO 2014); Community Health Workers are helping to fill that gap. CHWs provide information on nutrition, ensure TB patients take their medications, remind and escort pregnant women to ANC and PNC clinics, treat children under 5 at home, care for families dealing with HIV and supported the effort to contain Ebola in 2015. In the US, CHWs help communities address chronic disease, navigate hospital bureaucracy and get services.
CHW Central is an online community of practice that provides up-to-date guidance to increase the global exchange of best practices and other information related to CHWs and CHW programs. CHW Central is managed by Initiatives Inc., a small women-owned business founded in 1987 dedicated to improving the health and services provided to communities in the developing world.
We seek a motivated intern with an interest in developing skills in research, writing and design to support Initiatives’ work in disseminating information on CHW issues, policies, and best practices to the global and local community. The intern will be an essential part of content development, promotion and interacting with known CHW experts.
Responsibilities:
- Strong writing and organizational skills;
- Desire to learn about the work, challenges, and practices of both domestic and international CHWs;
- Understanding of website design and maintenance;
- Experience with social media marketing and communication strategies;
- Ability to monitor trends using Google Analytics or desire to learn;
- Knowledge of graphic design and video production, along with familiarity with the Drupal platform a plus

Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) Project Practicum Opportunity – Management Sciences for Health
Overview
The Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) Project collaborates with health leaders at all levels to improve leadership, management and governance practices to create stronger health systems and improved health for all, including some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. In many resource-poor settings, physicians or nurses are often the most educated or highly trained and are given responsibility for managing a local hospital clinic, or other health facility. Although they are often well-trained clinically, they often do not have the basic management, logistics, governance, or other skills needed to help ensure that the facility is run successfully.
The LMG project achieves these objectives by:
- Promoting enhanced performance improvement processes for individuals and teams that is driven by country leadership
- Using participatory processes and gender-aware approaches that enable health leaders and policy-makers to address their own challenges, and achieve results
- Building and using evidence-based approaches
- Leveraging partnerships through public and private investments in leadership, management and governance for greater health gains worldwide
Specific Responsibilities
This internship is an opportunity to work in collaboration with the MER team to examine the link between L+M+G and service delivery. A rapid assessment of the peer-reviewed and grey literature review has been conducted. While all the literature has been gathered, a review and an annotated bibliography of this literature is the next step in the evidence compendium process. Specific responsibilities include:
- Review all peer-reviewed and grey literature associated with leadership, management and governance and health service delivery and provide a full annotated bibliography for all peer reviewed and grey literature.
- Write a summary document highlighting key themes from the literature to be incorporated into the final compendium of evidence developed by the MER team.
- Participate in weekly team evidence compendium meetings.
- Other tasks, as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should be enrolled in a graduate program, preferably in public health or global health program. Required skills include:
- Experience in the use of Microsoft applications to include: MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience conducting systematic and/or rapid assessment literatures reviews
- Experience with reference software, previous experience using Zotero is a plus
- Attention to detail, strong organizational/documentation skills, and ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Familiarity with a LMIC health system is a plus
- Ability to work independently with a flexible schedule
- Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills
Student takeaways and application of skills:
- Working with the MER team on the LMG Project, the student should come to better understand the interplay between L+M+G and health service delivery interventions as well as becoming familiar with the interplay with the other WHO health system building blocks.
- Develop an understanding of the complexities of measuring and rigorously documenting upstream interventions as they relate to service delivery.
- Gain experience working and writing collaboratively on key deliverables to USAID.
- Co-authorship on the final technical brief for the evidence compendium
- Knowledge and skills learned can be applied to future Health Systems Strengthening work in LMIC, program design and evaluation, and capacity building intervention development in L+M+G.

CEESP provides funding for students from all students of Schools of Public Health to travel and conduct summer research in U.S. minority sites or international settings. Amount awarded is based upon each applicant's research project and its associated costs. Funding can cover costs including but not limited to: transportation (e.g., plane, train, bus), living (e.g., rent, utility bills), medical expenses (e.g., vaccinations, required preventive medication), language training, and a stipend/allowance.

Job Title: Volunteer Analytics and Data Visualization Intern
Description:
Vecna Cares, the non-profit arm of Vecna (www.vecnacares.org), provides technology and training to support and strengthen health systems in under-served areas for better health outcomes. We deploy hardware and software solutions worldwide (Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Haiti, US, etc.). We are seeking a volunteer Analytics and Data Visualization intern to work with our team to develop and refine the systems and tools we use for analysis and data visualization. You will collaborate with our teams in Cambridge, Kenya, Nigeria, and around the world to use R to distill large datasets down into easily digestible analysis and visualizations. The work that the Analytics and Data Visualization intern does will be consumed by our internal teams, public health policy makers, and healthcare workers around the world. Additionally, you will be responsible for surfacing key health-related insights from the data. Opportunities for publication of the work will also be available. This is a part time, unpaid internship.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Vecna Cares team to understand the needs of the organization and their clients as they relate to data analysis and visualization.
- Develop and refine system to analyze large sets of health related data to calculate key performance indicators and summarize information.
- Develop and refine system to visualize health-related data for use by operational managers, public health policy makers, and healthcare workers.
- Build and document sustainable R based system for data analysis and visualization that can be scaled across multiple projects.
Requirements:
- High level of proficiency in R programming.
- Ability to spend 10-20 hours per week working autonomously on various projects, including at least 2 hours in the Cambridge, MA office.
- Commitment of at least 3 months.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets and create compelling visuals.
- Strong problem solving skills, creativity, a positive attitude, and an enthusiasm for new ideas.
- Excellent visual and verbal communication skills.
