PhD Candidate Charley Binkow Awarded BUCH Fellowship

Congratulations to PhD Candidate Charley Binkow on winning the 2022 Boston University Center for the Humanities fellowship! The BUCH award is given to outstanding students in the humanities, and doctoral candidates nearing the end of their graduate work receive competitive fellowships for the following academic year.

Charley’s research is on the movement to criminalize abortion in nineteenth century America. Particularly, he is interested in how legal changes spurred religious and cultural responses. Charley’s dissertation title, “She Forces Nature,” comes from a Susan B. Anthony diary entry, her only known reference to abortion.
