David Scott Palmer Student Research Grants on Latin America

2018-2019

The Latin American Studies Program at Boston University is pleased to announce this year’s competition for funding to sponsor graduate research on Latin America. Projects on Latinos in the US will also be considered. In particular, this initiative is aimed at students completing Master Theses or PhD Dissertations or other significant research projects for academic credit. The funds can be used for travel or other research expenses between December 2018 and March 2019 (there will be another call for proposals for summer funding in March). The competition is open to any Boston University graduate student with relevant research interests.

Applications should arrive by November 15, 2018

Applications should include the following:

  • A letter of application
  • A resume or curriculum vitae
  • A project proposal of approximately two pages (one-half spaced), plus any supporting documentation, in which you set out the nature of the project, the specific research to be funded by the grant, a concrete research plan, and an itemized, documented budget for the research. Having a well thought out, detailed plan of research will improve your chances of success.
  • Evidence that you are also seeking other avenues of funding (such as GRAF or outside sources)
  • A letter of recommendation

Up to $800 per student will be awarded, according to the strength of the proposal, the costs of the project, and your overall qualifications.

THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 15, 2018

A CLAS review committee will notify you of its decisions by December 1, 2018.
