Launching a New Year of 公益性服务 and 公共服务, BU Law Honors 帕梅拉•希尔 (’77)

BU Law’s annual event honored alumna with the Victor J. Garo Award and introduced students to 公益性服务 and public service opportunities.

On Monday, September 12, BU Law kicked off the new academic year with a Public Interest and 公益性服务 Orientation and Marketplace. Attendees learned about 公益性服务 and public service opportunities at BU Law, and helped honor distinguished alumna 帕梅拉•希尔 (’77), a long-time lawyer with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), lecturer in climate change and environmental justice, and leader of BU Law’s new 环境法实习, with the Victor J. Garo 公共服务 Award. Dean Maureen O ' rourke instituted this distinction—awarded annually to an alum demonstrating exemplary commitment to 公益性服务 work—in 2007 to honor Garo’s 30-year 公益性服务 commitment to a wrongful conviction case.

After a welcome from Dean O’Rourke and Hill’s recognition, during which both speakers emphasized the importance of public service and 公益性服务 work in law school and throughout a lawyer’s career, the event introduced students to the various ways to get involved in government and public interest law at BU. 学生组织和澳门威尼斯人注册在房间的四周摆放着桌子，定向活动被组织成一个“市场”，因此学生可以参观每个展位，了解他们感兴趣的组织和机会的更多信息。

一系列学生组织和澳门威尼斯人注册展示了让学生参与的材料。 BU Law student Aaron Wiener (’18) talked about 公益性服务 spring break trips, the 职业发展与公共服务办公室 spoke about the 公益性服务 Program and public interest support at BU Law, and several Student Government Association representatives talked about student groups with public interest initiatives. “The orientation and marketplace offered a quick and helpful snapshot of ways that students can get involved,” Carolyn Goodwin, director for public service and 公益性服务 at BU Law, explained. “We want to highlight the important public service and 公益性服务 achievements of our alumni and bring to life the many ways our students can involve public service and 公益性服务 work in their legal careers, whether they go on to work for a law firm, a corporation, or in a public service capacity.”
