Prof. Adil Najam spoke at to a Group of 24 (G24) meeting at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Climate Change and the Development Agenda.
The XXVI Technical Group Meeting of the G24, met at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC to discuss key current and future challenges to the global financial system, especially as they relate to global development.
In his presentation to the G24, Prof. Najam stressed that climate has to be seen as a development challenge because it already is and will increasingly impact the development of the poorest countries. He argued that climate change will have the deepest impacts on the poorest, will impact the poorest first, and will impact the poorest disproportionately. Therefore, it is critical the climate policy be viewed as a component of development policy. Prof. Najam presented the G24 delegates with five key propositions that are likely to shape the future of climate and development policy.
