Pardee Post-Doctoral Fellow Presents at 2013 Eastern Economic Association
Pardee Post-Doctoral Fellow Suranjana Nabar-Bhaduri presented her paper titled “Not Sustainable: India’s Trade and Current Account Deficits” at the 2013 Eastern Economic Association (EEA) annual conference in New York May 9-11, 2013. Her paper argues that India’s post-independence trade balance and current accounts are not stable because spending on imports exceeds earnings from exports and she says this imbalance creates financial vulnerability.
Dr. Nabar-Bhaduri also served as a discussant in two sessions of the EEA conference focusing on development in developing economies. One session focused on strategies in the wake of the global financial crisis and the other focused on wage-led versus profit-led economic growth.
Dr. Nabar-Bhaduri is the author of the Pardee Center Issues In Brief No. 23 titled, Free Trade and Inclusive Development: Lessons from the Indian Experience.
