Prof. Selin Gives Talk at International Mercury Conference

Pardee Center Faculty Fellow Henrik Selin presented  a talk titled “The Minamata Convention: Challenges for Effective Treaty Implementation,” at the 11th International Conference on Mercury as Global Pollutant. The conference took place on July 28-August 2nd in Edinburgh, Scotland. Prof. Selin’s talk examined five sets of key provisions of the The Minamata Convention and argued the convention is more legally and politically important than environmentally significant, and that there is a need to strengthen controls over time to meet stated environmental and human health goals. An expert on international environmental governance issues, Prof. Selin also spoke about The Minamata Convention at the February 2013 Pardee House Seminar The New Global Agreement on Mercury: Will It Make a Difference?
