Student Seminar at the Pardee Center Launches BU Asian Film Week

The Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future hosted a student seminar and reception on October 22 titled “Young Asia: The Past and the Future” to kick off the Boston University Asian Film Week 2012.

The seminar and film week are sponsored by the BU Center for the Study of Asia (BUCSA). Co-sponsors of the opening seminar included the Pardee Center, the BU Center for the Humanities, the Modern Language and Comparative Literature Department, and Asian student organizations.

The seminar featured presentations by five BU students on topics including pension system reform in China, the outlook for agriculture and farming for future generations in Tiawan, social media and pop culture in China and Korea, and specific influences of youth on culture and the economy of Indonesia.

Presenters included Peng Huang, a doctoral candidate in the Economics Department an a 2012 Pardee Summer Fellow; Jully Chen of the Economics and International Relations departments; Kara Li Kexin, a public relations major in the College of Communication; Amy Kim of the Economics and International Relations departments; and Max Hasan, also majoring in Economics and International Relations.

Sun Taiyi, a doctoral candidate and Teaching Fellow in the Political Science Department, was the lead organizer of the event.

Faculty moderators and discussants included BU Center for the Study of Asia Director Eugenio Menegon; Prof. Cathy Yeh of the Modern Language and Comparative Literature Department; and Prof. Nancy Smith-Hefner of the Anthropology Department.
