Visiting Research Fellow Pablo Suarez Published in Nature Climate Change
Visiting Research Fellow Pablo Suarez was one of several co-authors of a paper titled “Ensuring climate information guides long-term development” published in the September 2015 issue of the journal Nature Climate Change. The paper addresses the failure of many sub-Saharan African countries to include climate information in long-term development decision-making. The region, which faces significant climate adaptation challenges along with social, economic, and demographic changes in the next several decades, must promote the integration of climate information into development plans, write the authors. They argue that the way in which climate information is produced, communicated, and utilized in sub-Saharan Africa requires a “step change” in order to effectively support anticipatory adaptation, long-lived investment, and risk management as part of a comprehensive climate-resilient development strategy in the region.
Suarez is a Pardee Center Visiting Research Fellow and associate director at the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre.
