Prof. Adil Najam writes Op-Ed on IRENA's Future

Prof. Adil Najam, the Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future and Boston University Professor of International Relations and of Geography and Environment, published an op-ed on the future of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in The National, Abu Dhabi’s largest English newspaper, on November 1, 2010. Abu Dhabi is the host city for IRENA.

The op-ed titled, “A firm hand at the helm of Irena could chart a new course” argues that the most “important challenge [for the IRENA’s new head] is to inspire and recreate the same confidence and enthusiasm among member states that led to Irena’s creation.”

Prof. Najam concludes his op-ed by arguing that “The next months should be exciting for this agency, which was conceived amid high hopes and promise but has been mired by bureaucratic infighting. One hopes that era is now behind us and member states will focus on moving forward with the agency’s substantial challenges rather than managerial turf wars.”

The op-ed was based on an earlier version published in TripleCrisis.com and also reproduced at GreenEconomyInitiative.com, at Renewable Energy Magazine, at SolarFeeds, at EnergyBoom.com and at EcoPeriodicals.
