Ambassador Park, Republic of Korea, discusses Rio+20 with Summer Fellows

Ambassador In-kook Park, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations and Co-Chair of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) discussed the issues and prospects for Rio+20 in a luncheon roundtable with Pardee Center Summer Fellows on July 1st.


During his remarks, Ambassador Park noted the key issues relating to the Green Economy, including on finance, technology and “green protectionism.” He stressed the potential of renewable energies and the interest they are arising amongst industry and Wall Street leaders. He said the key is for renewable energies to reach a price level close to grid parity.

Ambassador Park outlined the process for Rio+20, noting input for ideas is open until the 1st of November and anticipating an intense negotiating period for the first half of 2012 up until the Rio+20 conference, to be celebrated on 4-6 June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This event was part of a series of informal lunch meetings with the Pardee Graduate Summer Fellows and faculty members sponsored by the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.
