The Japanese Kimono – Now & Then
On Thursday, October 30, the Center for the Study of Asia at the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies co-hosted an event on the Japanese Kimono.
Co-hosted with the Japan Society of Boston the event welcomed a delegation of around 40 instructors from The Cultural Foundation for Promoting the National Costume of Japan, one of the leading kimono schools in Japan who presented a retrospective of kimono styles, from modern to ancient. Nearly 200 people attended the event held at the Metcalf Trustees Ballroom at BU, which featured a presentation of modern and ancient as well as formal and informal kimono styles.
Yoko Ogata, Head of the Tohoku office of the Cultural Foundation, narrated the 90 minute program in Japanese, while Bhaird Campbell, Executive Director of the Japan Society of Boston, translated.
The Center for the Study of Asia is one of Pardee School’s six regional and thematic centers.
