Undergraduate Alexandra Mascarello (’23) Pens Play on Why We Need the Humanities, Now Featured in BU Today
When undergraduate Philosophy major Alexandra Mascarello (’23) was awarded funding by the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), she seized the opportunity to combine her creativity, her interests in the humanities, and her determination to show how integral the humanities really are. The resulting play, Defense of the Humanities, is a successful means of communicating the work needed to value the humanities and diversify its canon, and is receiving much positive attention around campus. The play is currently being considered as an addition to the schedule for the BU Orientation of incoming students this summer and is also being considered as part of the CAS Core Curriculum’s programming. The play, its important messages, and the collaborative student work it has created to bring the play to life have since been featured in BU Today and the CAS Newsletter.
In addition to her work as a playwright, Alexandra is also a vibrant member of the Philosophy community and the President of the Undergraduate Philosophy Association.
