This NSF Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) program offers summer research opportunities for high school STEM teachers, working with faculty mentors and industry professionals, to engage in multidisciplinary engineering research activities. Through this RET program, STEM teachers, especially those from underrepresented groups and high needs public-school districts, will be trained to develop experimental research skills while gaining knowledge of advanced science and technology concepts and career paths for their students.

Participants will be exposed and contribute to cutting-edge research at Boston University, in one of two focus areas:

* Integrated Nanomanufacturing RET: design, fabrication, and integration of nanoscale components in optical, electronic, mechanical and biomedical systems to address important problems;

* Cellular Metamaterials RET: cardiac tissue engineering to repair or replace damaged heart muscle.

Participants will be coached as they develop an original curricular lesson or activity related to their research experience, to be taught in their classrooms and published online at TeachEngineering.
