Recommendations of Working Group on Areas of Concern for Part-Time Faculty

From Dr. Jean Morrison, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer

Last fall I convened a working group to develop recommendations regarding important areas of concern for part-time faculty including compensation, benefits, job security, professional development, recognition and respect. The group has completed its work and has prepared a report of its findings and recommendations which can be viewed in its entirety at /provost/faculty-affairs/part-time-faculty/part-time-faculty-working-group-report/.

As you will see, the report contains 37 recommendations.  Some of these recommendations, which we have already begun to implement, are as straightforward as gathering information about the benefits and resources available to part-time faculty in one place so that faculty can see them (see: /hr/home/part-time-employee-perks-2/).  Others are more complicated to execute, and we have begun the process of reviewing their feasibility with the University leadership.

In the coming months, we will communicate back to you regarding the results of that review. In the meantime, should you have any questions about this process or should you wish to provide comments on the report, I invite you to call my office at 617-353-5070 or write to me at provost@bu.edu.
