Roadmap

We will produce a full report to the University Provost and the President by May 30, 2016. We look forward to working with the Task Force and members of the University research community to provide a comprehensive look forward for non-faculty research staff at Boston University, including recommendations for new policies and procedures that will create consistency across our many schools and colleges and provide support and advancement opportunities for this important group of employees.

This webpage will be updated weekly with our progress so that you can stay involved and engaged every step of the way.

Gloria Waters, Vice President and Associate Provost for Research, met with the Task Force and gave us their charge. The task force discussed the history behind the creation of the Academic Research Job Family, the current jobs within the family and their distinguishing characteristics, and the research positions created by our peer institutions.

We discussed the types of jobs that support research at Boston University and whether or not each of them was appropriate to be contained within this job family. We also began to outline the types of decision making criteria that could be used to distinguish between different types of roles within research. Our goal by the end of our next meeting is to have a set of titles and criteria that can be disseminated to the community for feedback.
