Limited Submission Opportunity: Apple Scholars in AI/ML PhD Fellowship Program 2025

OBJECTIVES

The Apple Scholars in AI/ML PhD fellowship program supports emerging leaders in academic research through funding as they pursue their PhDs, mentorship with Apple researchers, and internship opportunities. As part of the Apple Scholars program, it supports the work of outstanding PhD students from around the world, who are pursuing cutting edge research in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

FUNDING INFORMATION

The fellowship award is comprised of a monetary gift and professional mentorship, including the following:

  • Gift amount covering full tuition and fees (enrollment fees, health insurance, and books) for 2 academic years
  • Up to $40,000 annually for living and related expenses
  • $5,000 annually for research-related travel and associated expenses
  • Mentorship with an Apple researcher

All monetary gifts are disbursed to the nominating university annually at the beginning of each academic year, and are conditional upon the Apple Scholar’s full time enrollment with the university for the upcoming year to which the monetary gifts would apply and continuing to meet the eligibility criteria.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled full-time at the start of Fall 2026 and expect to be enrolled through the end of the 2027-2028 academic year
  • Be entering their last 2-3 years of study as of Fall 2025
  • NOT hold another industry-sponsored full fellowship while they are an Apple Scholar in AI/ML (Fall 2026 through Summer 2028)

Interested applicants must go through BU’s internal selection process and cannot apply directly to this Fellowship Program.

INTERNAL SELECTION

BU may nominate up to 3 PhD students each pursuing a unique research area. Interested applicants should submit the following application materials via InfoReady Review by: 7/27/2025

  • Short Questions outlined in the InfoReady Review application
  • 4-page Research Statement describing your past work and proposed research direction for the upcoming 2 years
    • Clearly state the hypothesis and expected contributions to the research area(s) chosen in your application. You may select up to 2 research areas, which are described in the Nomination Guidelines (BU login required)
  • 1-page Recommendation Letter from your current advisor
  • Up-to-date CV, including a publication list

A faculty committee will review internal proposals and select institutional nominees.
