Limited Submission Funding Opportunity: 2022 Sloan Research Fellowships

OBJECTIVES:

The Sloan Research Fellowships seek to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise. These two-year fellowships are awarded yearly to 126 researchers in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field.

 FUNDING INFORMATION:

The 2022 fellowship amount will be $75,000. Fellowship funds may be used by the fellow for any expense judged supportive of the fellow’s research including staffing, professional travel, lab expenses, equipment, or summer salary support.

ELIGIBILITY RESTRICTIONS:

  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics, molecular biology, neuroscience, ocean sciences, physics, or a related field;
  • Candidates must be members of the faculty at a college, university, or other degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada
  • Candidates must be tenure track, though untenured, as of September 15th of the nomination year
  • Tenure track faculty positions at the candidate’s institution must include a yearly teaching requirement

INTERNAL SELECTION PROCESS:

Candidates must be nominated by a department head or other senior researcher. Submissions unaccompanied by a nomination from a senior researcher are not accepted. More than one candidate from a department may be nominated, but no more than three. For a list of required materials, please see: https://sloan.org/fellowships/#tab-materials-required. The applicants do not need to be vetted by the Office of Research.

Materials required include a letter from a department head or other senior researcher officially nominating the candidate and describing his or her qualifications, initiative, and research; three letters from other researchers written in support of the candidate’s nomination; two representative articles by the candidate that highlight his or her independent research; and a brief (1-page) statement by the candidate describing his or her significant scientific work and immediate research plans;
