Clinical Associate Professor Furlong Speaks to Harvard Public Health Students

Clinical Associate Professor Janice Furlong gave a talk for a health policy class on November 27, 2012, at the Harvard School of Public Health, about mental health policy and the potential impact of DSM-5 revisions. On December 2, she participated in a panel discussion at the Harvard Medical School, sponsored by the New England Medical Students PsychSIGN (Psychiatry Student Interest Group Network). The topic of the panel was Interdisciplinary Collaboration among Mental Healthcare Professionals.

Associate Professor Hahm has Article Published

Associate Professor Hyeouk Hahm, along with Jieha Lee, had an article titled,”HIV Risk, Substance Use, and Suicidal Behaviors Among Asian American Lesbian and Bisexual Women,” published in AIDS Education and Prevention. The study can be found online (BU login required).

Professor Lundgren Invited to Give Speech for Swedish National Board on Health and Welfare

Associate Dean for Research and Professor Lena Lundgren was invited to give the plenary speech for the Swedish National Board on Health and Welfare Conference titled, “Addiction Severity Index as a National Assessment Instrument for Substance Use Disorders,” on December 4, 2012. Additionally, Dr. Lundgren, in collaboration with CARS staff (Deborah Chassler), CARS students (Sarah Trocchio and Serena Smith-Patten), BU School of Medicine Faculty (Lisa Sullivan) and colleagues from Sweden, presented research findings from her Swedish Longitudinal National Study on Addiction Treatment utilization among vulnerable population groups.

Clinical Assistant Professor Moore Publishes Article

Clinical Assistant Professor Lisa Moore had an article titled, “Millennials in SW Field Education,” published in fall 2012 issue of The Field Educator, Simmons College School for Social Work Online Journal.

Associate Professor Paris Presents at CNA Military Children Conference

Associate Professor Ruth Paris presented on Strong Families Strong Forces, a DOD-funded project (PI, Ellen DeVoe) at the CNA Military Children Conference, in Washington, D.C., from November 29-30. The theme of the conference, “Promoting the Resilience of Military Children through Effective Programs,” raised issues and proposed solutions pertaining to the evaluation of programs for military children. The intent of the conference was to provide frameworks for improving programs for military children and the resilience of those who use them.
