Dawn Belkin Martinez Wins NASW Award for Social Change
March 28, 2018 — Every year, the NASW pays tribute to the Eastern Massachusetts Chapter’s first Executive Director with the Beverly Ross Fliegel Award for Greatest Contribution to Social Policy and Change.
This year’s winner is Dawn Belkin Martinez, associate clinical professor at BUSSW and Director of the BRIDGE Program, a supportively-structured graduate program for immigrants and refugees who pursue a graduate social work education at BU.
Like many members of the BUSSW community, Martinez’s social work practice extends far beyond the classroom. A bicultural social worker with interests in social justice and clinical practice with Latinx families, Martinez has worked extensively with immigrants and marginalized communities in Boston. She is a founding member of the Boston Liberation Health Group and author of the book “Social Justice in Clinical Practice: A Liberation Health Framework for Social Work.”
Martinez will receive the Beverly Ross Fliegel Award at NASW-MA’s 2018 Symposium, where another member of the BUSSW community – 2012 graduate of the BRIDGE Program, Carmen Rosa Noraña – will also be presented with an award.
