Professor Spencer, Doctoral Students Present on Mentoring

Professor Renee Spencer and two doctoral students, Terry Lewis and Antoinette Basualdo-Delmonico, presented a paper entitled "Mentoring in a Multicultural Society: A Complex Relationship" at the 7th annual Institute for the Study and Promotion of Race and Culture Diversity Challenge conference, at Boston College on October 20. The presentation was part of a symposium, Building Community and Practice Capacity for Addressing Psychological Trauma and Substance Abuse among Youth of Color," chaired by Lisa Fortuna, MD, MPH,Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School.

The multidisciplinary symposium explored research and practice designed to address disparity in services for minority urban youth, from the perspective of social work, education, and child psychiatry. It focused on the implementation of interventions in mentoring, education, and mental health aimed at influencing community-based support for adolescents of color.
